Pakistan Stock Exchange Friday closed on a negative note due to selling in various sectors.

BRIndex100 lost 11.83 points or 0.28 percent to close at 4,262.59 points. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,276.19 and intraday low of 4,240.29 points. Volumes stood at 90.149 million shares.

BRIndex30 decreased by 281.36 points or 1.25 percent to close at 22,139.82 points with a turnover of 58.895 million shares.

The KSE-100 index declined by 54.58 points to close at 40,016.13 points. Trading activity remained thin as daily volumes on the ready counter decreased to 98.734 million shares as compared to 102.625 million shares traded Thursday. Out of total 313 active scrips, 162 closed in negative, 132 in positive while the value of 19 stocks remained unchanged.

Bank of Punjab was the volume leader with 7.351 million shares. However, it lost Re 0.07 to close at Rs 13.36 followed by Pak Elektron that closed at Rs 25.21, down Re 0.12 with 5.632 million shares.

Indus Motor Co and Thal Limited were the top gainers with Rs 21.43 and Rs 14.38, respectively to close at Rs 1,297.17 and Rs 451.09. Pak Services and EFU Life Assr were the top losers with Rs 50.00 and Rs 11.27, respectively to close at Rs 950.00 and Rs 214.23.

BR Commercial Banks Index declined by 46.04 points or 0.53 percent to close at 8,574.58 points with total turnover of 20.311 million shares.

BR Cement Index gained 7.91 points or 0.18 percent to close at 4,393.18 with 6.816 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index inched up 14.1 points or 0.28 percent to close at 4,979.09 points with 7.039 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index closed at 1,016.80 points, up 6.22 points or 0.62 percent with 6.961 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index lost 4.01 points or 0.07 percent to close at 6,110.40 points with 7.134 million shares.

An analyst at Arif Habib Limited said with a lack of fanfare and excitement, the market finally ended the week in red. Banking sector realized the most volumes (20 million), followed by Chemical Sector (8.7 million). Among the banking sector, UBL hit lower circuit again with a traded volume of 4.2 million shares at lower circuit.

Following the bearish sentiment, BOP, NBP and HBL also traded in red. NBP's announcement of financial results sans dividend failed to impress the investors, which resulted in stock trading at lower than Thursday's closing.

Overall, the index went down by 279 points however, recovery of around 200 points was seen by end of session.

Sectors contributing to the performance include Banks (down 99 points), Miscellaneous (down 26 points), E&P (up 23 points) and Autos (up 20 points).

Stocks that contributed positively include MCB (up 26 points), OGDC (up 16 points), HUBC (up 13 points), THALL (up 13pts) and MEBL (up 12 points). Stocks that contributed negatively include UBL (down 77 points), PSEL (down 26 points), HBL (down 22 points), ENGRO (down 16 points) and HMB (down 15 points).
